Arizona Bankruptcy Attorney Dom Majors
There is no one-size-fits-all solution for a debt problem. The best solution is the solution that works best for you and your situation. If you have a debt problem, here are a few steps I recommend you take to find the solution that’s best for you:
Look at ALL of the options for handling that debt problem. That includes looking at options that you don’t think you’d like.
See where you will be with each option 3-5 years from now. Will you be debt free, or will you still be dealing with debt problems? Will you be facing a lawsuit or wage garnishment? What will you credit look like? Will you be able to set aside money for a down payment on a house?
Rise above the treeline to see where each option will take you. My advice is this: if you can’t go all the way down a certain road, then why take one step in that direction? Here’s a case in point: An elderly lady came to me after she lost her job. Her only income is her Social Security check, so she can’t afford to pay her credit card bills that total $21,000. She asked me if she should cash-out the $7,000 she had in a retirement account to pay toward the $21,000 in credit card debt. I told her that was not a good option because she would still owe $14,000 in credit card debt after doing that. If you can’t go all the way down a certain road, then why take one step in that direction?
Choose the option that’s best for you. After you’ve looked at all of your options, then pick the one that’s best for you.
