Washington's updated exemptions (RCW 6.15.010, effective July 1, 2025) protect household goods, appliances, furniture, and home and yard equipment up to $6,500 per spouse — so a married couple protects $13,000.
Notably, cell phones, personal computers, and printers are exempt with NO dollar cap. Additional categories include furs and jewelry up to $3,500, private libraries up to $3,500, and clothing.
Household items are valued at what they'd fetch used — garage-sale prices — so in practice virtually every Washington filer keeps all of their household belongings.

Exemption figures were verified against official sources in August 2026; inflation-adjusted amounts (including Arizona's Prop 209 figures and county median homestead values) are computed estimates that change annually and should be confirmed by an attorney for your petition date.
